DSU Heritage Foundation hires Kyle Smith, promotes Alicia Erickson

DICKINSON, N.D. (April 14, 2021) – The DSU Heritage Foundation (DSUHF) recently made two significant changes to its team. Alicia Erickson ’00 was promoted in December from director of alumni relations to the position of development officer for alumni. Kyle Smith ’12 was hired as the development officer for athletics and rodeo.

While a student at Dickinson State University (DSU), Alicia Erickson was highly involved on campus. She gave her first tour of the “College on the Hill” as volunteer student ambassador. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in business administration, her enthusiasm for DSU led her to being hired as an admissions counselor—a job she held for 10 years. After a brief stint at Wells Fargo Home Mortgage, the Medicine Lake, Montana, native returned to DSU in 2013. Erickson currently serves on DSU’s Staff Senate, the Philanthropic Education Organization, and is a board member for the Dickinson Area Chamber of Commerce.

As the development officer for alumni, Erickson will continue her work in alumni relations, a part of her job that she truly values. “In my enhanced role,” she notes, “I will be able to make even more connections while I work to increase funding for academic scholarships.”
According to Ty Orton, executive director of the DSUHF, “Alicia is passionate about DSU. She is going to have a tremendous, positive impact in her new role.”

As the development officer for athletics and rodeo, Kyle Smith will be an integral part of the DSU Heritage Foundation’s growing team. While attending DSU, Smith majored in exercise science and was involved in athletics as a member of the football team and as a student coach. After graduating from DSU, he earned a master’s degree from the University of Mary, worked in management positions at Baker Boy, and served as the operations manager at CHI St. Alexius Health in Dickinson.

Smith will be responsible for athletic fundraising, including raising scholarship dollars and promoting capital campaigns. “I’m excited to be back at DSU,” said Smith. “Since I left graduate school, it has been a goal of mine to get back into the athletic realm, and now I have been given the perfect opportunity to support DSU athletics while helping to grow the overall Foundation to support as many students as we can.”

“Kyle loves DSU athletics,” said Orton. “Over the years, he has volunteered whenever needed, including announcing games. It was a good fit for us to bring him in to assist in raising dollars to support our student athletes.”

During the five years since its inception, the DSUHF has raised more than $21 million in support of the University and its students. For more information, contact the DSUHF at https://www.dsuheritagefoundation.org/contact-us.
